- What the heck is a "LAN Party"
- It is a gathering of people who like to have fun
playing computer games, socializing, eating, and doing
normal human type things.
- Well, how many people usually come to these
things?
- I can usually attract about 15 people, but I have had
30 people at a single party. But since you asked there
are
people registered and
of them are attending the next one on 0.is.not.a.month , 20 to 0.is.not.a.month , 20
- What time does the thing start?
- It usually begins at noon (12:00) on the starting day
and ends when everybody has left on the last day.
- How long to I have to wait until the next
party?
- There will only be Uncertain Amount Of Time
until the next scheduled party.
- Do I have to, like, be really good at gaming to
enjoy myself?
- No, you could suck badly and still have a great time.
People have just come to watch and not even touch a
computer and still had a blast.
- Should I bring my computer, even if it stinks and
is krusty at the newer games?
- Yes, If it stinks though, it may become difficult to
play in the tournaments. If I were you I would still
bring it, because you may do graphic work and want to
show off your stuff, or just use it to pass time in the
wee hours of the night.
- Do I need a network card?
- Well.... not really, but yes. We usually have a
source of spare network cards, but don't count on it. I
would recommend that you look around the online stores
for a cheap network card (NIC). http://www.buy.com/
usually has some cheap ones.
- What is a network card?
- A network card or NIC (Network Interface Card) is
what you use to connect your computer to a bunch of other
computers via a Hub, which is a box that has a bunch of
ports on it where cables from various NICs connect to.
This will make a "Network".
- How do you know all this stuff?
- "Trial & Error" or "Practice Makes Perfect". You
pick which one you like best.
- I can only make it for a little while, and won't
be able to stay the entire time, can I still
come?
- Sure, it is interesting even if you are only here for
an hour. A lot of the time younger and older brothers
and/or sisters that drop off the actual attendant stay
for a short while just to see the cool stuff going
on.
- When I bring my computer, what parts do I need to
bring?
- You must to bring EVERYTHING your computer needs to
function. Granted we have some spare parts in case you
forget something, but it is best to just pack what you
need. Please do not bring speakers, they are distracting
to the other players, instead, bring a comfortable pair
of headphones.
- I am a tard and don't want to bring any networking
cables what can I do.
- The Dao of LAN now offers cables for rent. $3 for a
Cat5e cable per party.
- I have Jury Duty on a date real close to the LAN
Party. Can I still come?
- If you have run out of excuses for dodging
governmental duties, you better hope the trial you are
chosen for is not another O.J.-year-long trial. (Don't
ask me for another excuse.)
- Should I bring my CDs of games and stuff?
- You should bring what ever you would like to use or
share with other people at the party. This is not limited
to or excluding Game CDs, Music CDs, System Restore CDs
(Just to be safe), and Movie CDs
- What do we do for food at the party?
- It is polite to bring a 2-liter of Coke or a 12-Pack
of cans to share, even though some food and unlimited
drink is provided. (Drinks consist of ALL flavors of
Publix Cola) so, if you don't like it, bring your own,
but share. It is also not a bad idea to bring some
munchies for yourself late at night.
- Are there places to sleep there?
- There are more than enough places to sleep. We have
all sorts of sleeping environments which include: Cold
rooms, Warm rooms, loud rooms, quiet rooms, breezy rooms,
stagnant rooms, bright and dark rooms. You don't have to
bring your own bedding materials, but that also is not a
bad idea.
- What games do you usually play?
- The Tournaments are played in Quake 3 Arena and
StarCraft Brood Wars. Other than the 2-3 hours that we
are in heated tournament mode you are free to play any
game you want. The ones I would recommend are Quake 3,
Unreal Tournament, Carmageddon 2, StarCraft, Diablo 2,
Descent III, and 4x4 Evolution.
- Does your network have Internet access (is it
connected to the Internet)?
- Yes, there is Internet access here, and if you don't
know how to set it up on your computer, We do. While here
and on the network your computer will be protected from
rogue attackers on the Internet, because we are behind a
secure passive invisible firewall that also does DHCP
serving. Our Internet connection consists of a High-Speed
RoadRunner Cable modem connected to the underpopulated
Union Park cfl.rr.com Node that is directly connected to
the HUGE Tampa Bay RoadRunner Backbone.
- My mommy doesn't like it when I go places and
spend a bunch of time away from her. Is there a way to
appease her?
- For those of you poor bastards in this boat, we
encourage your mommy or daddy to come watch and stay for
a while. This way they can see that we are not really
strange compared to "normal" people, and that you will be
physically and mentally safe from dangers. Feel free to
invite them and see what kinds of neat things we have
here.
- Do you guys just do computer games the whole 72
hours?
- Actually, No. We play games about 50% of the time,
and the rest of the time is divided between, Internet
browsing, socializing, sleeping, eating, and making
bathroom breaks from the massive amount of Coke
consumed.
- Who do I contact to come to one of these
parties?
- See the table on the info page labeled "Here
Is The Info"
- Could you suggest another excuse. I used all my
excuses up.
- I told you not to ask me that.
